About Amy

Amy Diana Ramirez, MA

Cancer Survivor, Colorado Psychotherapist

Having recently survived Synchronous Bilateral Breast Cancer (Triple Negative and ErPr+Her2-), Amy Diana Ramirez has reopened her psychotherapy practice to include clients with cancer-related concerns in addition to treating clients struggling with eating disorders, thus expanding her therapeutic repertoire.

Earlier in her life, she overcame two severe eating disorders - anorexia (diagnosed at age 14) and bulimia (diagnosed at age 21). Because she had such a lackluster experience with her first eating disorder counselor, she decided to pursue a career in psychology and become an eating disorder therapist...to become one of the good ones.

Since then, Amy has studied at two stellar psychology graduate schools: Columbia University, Teachers College, and California State University, Chico.  Even as a CSU Honors undergraduate student, Amy conducted a psychological study investigating the eating patterns and jealousy scores of first-year college students living in residence halls.  Her research into disturbed eating patterns began in the late 80s.  Though she may appear younger than her years, she has been "dialed in"  for nearly four decades.

Her post-graduate education has involved being trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy ("DBT," created by psychologist Marsha Linehan). [Amy was trained, in part, by Linehan herself in 2011.]  She has recently become versed in Radically Open Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (RO-DBT), designed by Thomas R. Lynch. These two state-of-the-art approaches are combined with classic Cognitive Behavioral Therapy ("CBT"), created by Aaron Beck and adapted for eating-disordered behavior by Terence Sanbek.  In fact, at age 15, Amy mastered most of Sanbek's book The Deadly Diet: Recovering from Anorexia and Bulimia. All of Amy's therapeutic interventions share an underpinning of Humanistic Therapy (coined by Carl Rogers). Interestingly, Amy is also a licensed esthetician in Colorado, giving her a unique perspective on treating appearance-related concerns. Therefore, Amy is exceptionally well-equipped to evaluate and treat a variety of disturbed behavioral and thought patterns, appearance-related hang-ups, and concerns that can arise from a cancer diagnosis.

Please contact Amy if you feel lost or alone, or have not succeeded with any therapist thus far. Amy welcomes the most resistant cases as well as those who are highly motivated to change. Her approach focuses on long-term adjustment, expanding mindfulness, promoting radiant health, and fostering profound personal transformation.
There is no time like the present to recover and live confidently.
